The Armory
The tools I make for working with type. One finds fonts, the other makes them.
01
Whetstone
v0.1.7 A font manager for Windows and Android that searches by similarity. Draw a letter, or pick a font you already know, and it finds free fonts that look like it: alternatives to paid typefaces, or matches for lettering you designed yourself. You can also search by name and compare two side by side.
Versions
- 0.1.716 Oct 2026Draw to search: sketch letters, or import a photo, a scan or an SVG.
- 0.1.64 Oct 2026No context menu outside text fields. The compare panel can be resized.
- 0.1.54 Oct 2026Search by name. Compare two fonts side by side.
- 0.1.43 Oct 20262,727 fonts, previews, and your own installed fonts.
02
Swage
v0.1.0 A parametric type design editor for Windows. You describe a typeface with a few dozen measurements, such as stem thickness, x-height or serif length, and recipes build the letters from them. Change a value and every letter that uses it follows. Then take any glyph out of the system and draw it by hand. The fonts you make are yours.
Versions
- 0.1.016 Oct 2026First build. Parametric recipes for a–z, A–Z, figures and accents; point editor, spacing and kerning, checks, and export to TTF, OTF and WOFF2.
More tools will land here as they get built.
