Actor began as a diploma thesis at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences, by Karl-Friedrich (Kai) Oetzbach, out of a type design course. The goal was to learn about writing as a carrier of information by making a typeface. It was built entirely digitally, and the route to its current version was winding and rocky.
